Job Purpose:
To ensure that evidence-based Stop Smoking programmes are delivered to targeted populations across the borough. You will support individuals to make positive lifestyle changes using behaviour change interventions and motivational engagement, acting as the client’s main point of reference throughout their journey.
Using an integrated, holistic approach, you will help clients improve their health through smoking cessation, harm reduction, healthy eating, physical activity, alcohol reduction and stress management — with a primary focus on supporting individuals to stop smoking and reduce tobacco use.
You will deliver one-to-one (face-to-face and remote), drop-in and outreach sessions to help smokers achieve 4-week and 12-week quit outcomes, supporting long-term behaviour change. Approximately 80% of your week will be dedicated to clinical delivery.
About the Role:
As a Smoking Cessation Advisor, you will:
- Deliver tailored stop smoking and harm reduction interventions across Hounslow.
- Provide one-to-one and drop-in clinics (face-to-face and remote).
- Support clients using evidence-based behavioural and pharmacological interventions in line with national guidance.
- Work in community settings including GP surgeries, pharmacies, schools, hospitals, and specialist services such as drug and alcohol providers.
- Contribute to training community Smoking Cessation Advisors to expand service reach.
- Address health inequalities by providing targeted support to priority groups including Mental Health, Young People, Routine & Manual workers and Maternity clients.
- Support smokefree homes initiatives and conduct outreach work across the borough.
This is a varied, rewarding role requiring flexibility, including occasional evening and weekend work (time off in lieu provided).
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, deliver and evaluate accessible stop smoking and harm reduction interventions.
- Provide specialist tobacco cessation support, assessing readiness to change and suitability for treatment.
- Deliver behavioural support and pharmacological advice in line with national guidelines (NICE, NCSCT, Department of Health).
- Provide evidence-based advice regarding vaping and support those quitting nicotine-containing vapes.
- Tailor support to different forms of tobacco use (e.g. shisha, chewing tobacco).
- Deliver support to Tier 2 and Tier 3 clients and ensure follow-up at 4, 12 and 52 weeks.
- Maintain accurate client records using the My Smoke Free Life (MSFL) system.
- Manage and supply stop smoking treatments during sessions.
- Promote clinics and outreach activities to maintain engagement and meet KPIs.
- Build strong relationships with health services, community organisations and workplaces.
- Deliver presentations and training sessions to professionals and stakeholders.
- Support smoking prevention initiatives for children and young people.
- Mentor volunteers and primary care staff.
- Maintain equipment (e.g. CO monitors) and restock adviser treatment supplies.
- Work flexibly to meet commissioner demand and service targets.

Essential skills and experience include:
- NCSCT trained Smoking Cessation Advisor (essential)
- Qualification in Health Promotion, Health Improvement, Health Inequalities, Health Psychology or equivalent relevant experience (desirable)
- Experience in smoking cessation, behaviour change and health improvement
- Experience working in a target-driven environment and achieving KPIs
- IT skills and experience maintaining electronic client records
- Knowledge of NICE guidance, NCSCT standards and evidence-based stop smoking treatment programmes
- Understanding of smoking harms, addiction, withdrawal, relapse and harm reduction approaches
- Experience assessing and managing complex cessation cases
- Client engagement and motivational skills
- Excellent planning, organisation and time management
- Ability to travel between sites with required equipment
- Experience delivering health and wellbeing programmes or training (desirable)
- Knowledge of motivational interviewing, health coaching or COM-B (desirable)
- Innovative approach to digital or remote service delivery (desirable)
- Non-smoker or ex-smoker

We’re looking for a passionate and dynamic practitioner to deliver our adult behavioural
change weight-management programme. In this role, you’ll empower adults to improve
their health through sustainable lifestyle changes—supporting them to eat well, move
more, and reduce alcohol intake where needed. Most of your time will be spent leading
face-to-face group sessions, creating a motivating and inclusive environment where
individuals feel supported to achieve meaningful, long-term results.
You’ll use evidence-based coaching techniques, including motivational interviewing
and CBT-informed strategies, to help participants overcome barriers and build healthier
habits. Alongside group delivery, you’ll provide one-to-one health coaching, maintain
accurate records, and work closely with community partners to ensure the ongoing
success of the service.
Key Responsibilities:

You will be confident, organised, and passionate about supporting adults to achieve healthier lifestyles. This role requires regular travel to locations including Eastbourne, Crawley, Brighton, Worthing, Littlehampton, and Horsham, as well as building strong local relationships.
Essential skills and experience include:
- A degree (or equivalent qualification) in a relevant field such as Nutrition, Dietetics, Health Promotion, Education, Psychology, Physical Education, Sport & Exercise, or similar.
- Experience using motivational interviewing and CBT-based approaches, particularly when working with sensitive or complex issues.
- Experience delivering group facilitation or coaching with adults and/or children.
- Confidence in using IT systems for data entry, communication, and reporting.
- A driving licence is required
