MORELIFE WORK IN PARTNERSHIP WITH SEVERAL ORGANISATIONS TO BROADEN OUR ABILITY TO REACH PEOPLE AND TO KEEP IMPROVING OUR SERVICE
Whole Systems Approach to Obesity
Leeds Beckett University (LBU) are working with a range of Local Authorities to help develop a Whole Systems Approach to Obesity. LBU are currently leading on a 3-year, PHE funded programme that seeks to give local authorities the skills, knowledge, tools and confidence to work in a whole systems way. This will enable organisations to capitalise on their own resources and maximise efficiency and productivity. A whole systems approach recognises that single interventions and actions may not be effective unless included as part of a broader integrated and dynamic approach.
Illustrating that Morelife are at the cutting edge of research and best practice in public health, our director Paul Gately is employed by LBU to lead the delivery of this internationally recognised project.
MoreLife employ this learning and approach in our delivery and offer to bring together the relevant stakeholders from across the public and private sectors and collectively agree on the best approach to tackle obesity locally.

Professor Paul Gately has been a Trustee of HOOP UK since October 2013 and was appointed as a Director in Nov 2014.
HOOP UK is a registered charity which operates as a membership organisation to represent the patient voice for those affected by obesity. HOOP members form a mutual support group and provide a valuable link between those who struggle on a daily basis and the healthcare organisations that provide evidence based weight management services.
Lesley is the founding director of HOOP. Her passion to help people overcome problems with obesity was ignited in 2010 when she looked for much needed help for her youngest daughter, who was struggling with her weight. Lesley was appalled at the lack of support available to her daughter and for herself as a parent. Wanting to help other parents and children to benefit from the resources and facilities that she was eventually able to secure for her daughter, Lesley came up with the idea of HOOP.
HOOP UK aims to be the ‘go to’ organisation in the UK for support for those struggling with the issues surrounding weight management and obesity. We aim to:
- Facilitate increased awareness and engage with the public on the issues of childhood and adult obesity
- Provide support to parents who feel challenged by their child’s or their own weight
- Improve access to appropriate evidence based weight management treatment and prevention programmes for children, young people and adults
