Professor Carlton Cooke

Carlton is a Professor of Sport & Exercise Science in the Carnegie School of Sport and co-lead of the Obesity Institute at Leeds Beckett University. He has over 40 years of experience working in higher education at the Universities of Birmingham, Loughborough, Leeds Beckett and Leeds Trinity.
He studied at the University of Birmingham where he gained his BSc and Postgraduate Certificate in Physical Education and Mathematics and his PhD in Biomechanics and Exercise Physiology. He is a Fellow of the British Association of Sport & Exercise Sciences.
Carlton was part of the team that worked on the pioneering National Fitness Survey of England, and the Welsh Heart Health Survey. He has a wealth of experience in research and knowledge exchange projects related to physical activity, exercise and health, including obesity and sports performance.
Carlton started working with Paul Gately when he was an undergraduate student at Leeds Beckett University. They have continued to collaborate since the 1990s. He sits on the board of MoreLife as a representative of the University. Part of his role in the University is to continually develop collaborative work between MoreLife and Leeds Beckett University.
