The BMI calculator is a great tool to check if you are underweight, healthy weight,
overweight or obese. When you enter your height, weight, age and gender, the calculator
produces a Body Mass Index score. The BMI score indicates how appropriate your weight
is, after taking into consideration your height, age and gender. If you lose weight,
your BMI score will decrease as there is less weight spread across your height,
and if you gain weight your BMI score will increase as you have more weight spread
across your height.
This is a quick and easy tool that is used by health professionals to check one
measure of our health. Enter your details below to calculate your BMI.
Your BMI percentile shows how your BMI compares to other young people who were the same age and gender as you (in 1990).
For example if your BMI is 24 and is on the 80th percentile for your age and gender, that means your BMI is in the top 20
for weight and that there are 80 young people with a lower BMI.
What are the centile ranges?
BMI 1st to 4th percentile: Underweight
BMI 5th to 84th percentile: Healthy Weight
BMI 85th to 94th percentile: Overweight
BMI 95th to 100th percentile: Obese
Therefore, if your BMI is in either in the top 15% or bottom 4%, you are likely to have health risks due to your weight.
